Have you ever been to Indonesia and seen researchers measuring a lizard? Is that lizard longer than you? If it is then it might be a Komodo dragon. To begin, You can find a Komodo Dragon on volcanic islands in Komodo in the country of Indonesia. Their habitat faces many threats, including volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and poaching. A Komodo Dragon can reach up to 10 feet in length and weigh more than 300 pounds.
These creatures are the heaviest lizards on Earth. They have long flat heads with rounded snouts, scaly skin, bowed legs, and huge muscular tails. Large adult dragons eat goats, pigs, deer, and smaller Komodo Dragons. They have been known to bring down horses and water buffalo. They also hunt smaller animals like insects, mice, rats, and rabbits. If the prey escapes from the Komodo Dragon’s bite, it will die within 24 hours of blood poisoning because the Komodo’s saliva contains 50 strains of bacteria. With its fantastic sense of smell, the Komodo will find the dead animal and finish its meal. Bacteria are made of a single cell and can be seen only with a microscope. The Komodo Dragons are endangered and there are only 3,000 of them left. Komodo dragons have been in captivity since 1927. Last, In 1927 thirteen baby dragons hatched from eggs at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington D.C. If you ever see a Komodo Dragon, you have to be calm and stay still. But if the Komodo dragon sees you then you better run because this creature will kill you with its venom. If the Komodo Dragon bites you then you need to get help fast or you may only live for about 3 hours.
