If you like to see where wild animals live but do not want to go to the African Safari, you can visit your neighborhood zoo. One of the zoos I like to visit is the San Diego Zoo. The San Diego Zoo was first opened in 1976. Right now it is made out of 5 sections, the Northern Frontier, Discovery Outpost, Urban Jungle, Lost Forest, and Africa Rocks. Are you wondering why the zoo has 5 sections? They have 5 sections because each section has its own habitat for the different animals that live there. My favorite animal at the zoo is the cheetah. Do you know cheetahs are the fastest land animal on earth? They can run up to 50-80 miles per hour, but for only a short time. You can find the cheetahs at the Africa Rocks. Another animal that I like is the Komodo dragon. Do you know the Komodo dragon is the heaviest reptile? This reptile can weigh up to 200 pounds. You can find them at the Discovery Outpost. If you want more interesting facts about these dragons, you may read my other blog post. The San Diego Zoo has lots of helpful workers that tell you interesting facts about the animals and they can guide you to places you need help getting to. If you are hungry you can go to many places to eat. One of the best places to eat at is the Hua Mei Café because when you buy a kids meal they give you a souvenir drinking cup, animal cookies, and a zoo bag. Another souvenir that I like to get is an animal on a coin. If you do want a coin then you need to bring $0.51. Some animals that they have are a cheetah, polar bear, Komodo dragon and more. You can get other souvenirs at the many gift shops. They sell shirts, books, stuffed animals, candies, board games and more. If you are tired then you can go on a tour bus that takes you around the zoo and the bus driver will tell you interesting stories about the animals. This is a good way to see many animals at the zoo if you don’t have a lot of time. If you ever go to a zoo you should bring a camera to take pictures of you favorite animals. You should also bring money to buy souvenirs. Let me know which zoo is your favorite and tell me your favorite animals you like to see there.
